CAFWCL: Okon Edwin Blames Travel Delay For Rivers Angels Slumber

Head coach of Rivers Angels Edwin Okon have sited the travel hitches her team experienced as the reasons behind their shambolic 3-0 defeat to Asfar Club of Morocco in the opening day of the maiden Totalenergies Women’s CAF champions league in ongoing in Cairo Egypt, Owosports.com.ng reports.

The Nigerian champions who were billed to travel to Cairo on Tuesday ahead of the championship could not as visas were not issued to some of the players.

The team were also made to travel in batches as the first batch travelled on Thursday after they were granted entry visas into Egypt, while the second batch had to wait until Friday before they linked up.

A circumstances the coach has sited as the major reason behind their embarrassing defeat, “The team is tired from all the traveling issues and that’s the normal result. My job is to pick up their spirit, let them know that the game is over and recover for the next matches”, Coach Edwin said to CAFonline in a post match interview.

The Rivers State based team are left with no option but to get back on track when they take on Mamelodi Sundowns (South Africa), in their next game on Tuesday 9th November 2021.
