CHAN Qualifiers: Huge Mountain To Climb For Nigeria As Eagles Surrenders To Ghana In Cape Coast

Nigeria’s Super Eagles B team will need to dig deep in the second leg of the championship of African Nations qualifiers against the Black Galaxies of Ghana if they are to qualify for the championship billed for Algeria in 2023.

Super Eagles B suffered a disappointing 2-0 defeat to Ghana in the 2023 CHAN Qualifier first leg at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium on Sunday evening.

Ghana had eliminated Benin in the preliminary round to set up a the derby encounter against bitter rivals Nigeria in the final round of qualifiers.

Super Eagles were hoping to make it to the tournament next year after missing out on the last edition.

The Salisu Yusuf managed team did well to hold their own in the first half which ended 0-0.

Black Galaxies of Ghana went in front through Daniel Afriyie Barnie who scored from the spot in the 48th minute.

Four minutes from time, Seidu Suraj gave Ghana a good advantage with the second goal of the game.

The return leg is scheduled for Saturday, 3rd September at the MKO Abiola National Stadium, Abuja with Nigeria handed with the huge task of beating the Ghanian’s by atleast three unreplied goals if they are to stand a chance of upturning the tie to progress in the second leg.
