The Head Coach of Flying Eagles of Nigeria, Coach Aliyu Zubair has qualified the team for the final of the 2024 WAFU B U20 Championship.
The Coach Zubair-led team came from behind to defeat Niger Republic’s Junior Mena 3-1 on Sunday night.
Recall that Coach Aliyu was appointed in September to handle the team with the major mandate of qualifying them for the AFCON which he has now been able to achieve.
Although lost their first game to Burkina Faso 1-0, the flying Eagles team under Coach Aliyu were able to secure a 2-1 comeback victory to book the semifinal ticket, a feat they replicated on Sunday by coming from behind to defeat Niger Republic.
Coach Aliyu, who is also the Technical Adviser of Elkanemi Warriors is now set for the final against Ghana where he hopes to win and retain the WAFU-B trophy for Nigeria.
He is also expected to lead the team to South Africa Nations Cup in 2025 where they will fight for a slot for a World Cup ticket.
Aliyu boasts of a rich football credentials having managed teams from the lowest cadre of the Nigeria leagues upto the elite division.
He is one of the few Coaches to have promoted two different teams to the NPFL from the NNL having achieved the feat with Gombe United and Elkanemi Warriors of Maiduguri.
Coach Aliyu recently also led Elkanemi Warriors to win the prestigious President Federation Cup where they defeated Abia Warriors in the final
