Nigeria U17 Women’s national team head coach, Olowookere Bankole was handed the Sport Icon of the year 2022 award at the Sheroes Awards on Tuesday.
Bankole won the award for his outstanding showing with the Flamingos at the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup in India last month, where they ended up with a bronze medal.
While commenting on the award, Coach Olowookere Bankole took to his Twitter handle to dedicate the award to everyone who made his success possible.
“Today at the Sheroes Awards, I was awarded the Sport Icon of the year 2022, I dedicate this award to my colleagues, the entire Nigeria U17 Women’s national team, the entire Eko football, NFF, Naija Ratels and Nigerians 🙏🏼. Thank you so much,” he wrote in a twitter post.
Nigeria U-17 women’s national team, the Flamingos finished third at the FIFA U-17 women’s world cup in India after beating European giants Germany 4-3 on penalties to clinch the bronze medal.
The team who was featuring at the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup for the sixth time, wrote their names in the history books after defeating USA in the quarter-finals to make it to the semi-finals where they eventually lost on penalties to Colombia.
