Coach Kabir Sulaiman Dogo’s first match with Kwara United Football Club ends in a goalless draw, as Remo Stars held the Ilorin-based team in the Matchday Eight of the Nigeria Premier Football League decided at the Lekan Salami Stadium this evening.
Kwara United started the game on a promising note, getting two shots, one on target and the other off target within six minutes, and followed up with series of menacing moves into the vital area of the opponents, but couldn’t put the ball into the net.
The team started with a different line up, with Ebuka Anaekwe starting his first game, and Omaka Anthony, Yakub Hammed and Paul Samson returning to the starting line up, a measure which seems to have brought out the best from the team.
Equally, the two youngsters who were signed up from the Kwara Football Academy, Abubakar Garba and Godwin Oshagbemi were introduced in the latter part of the game, as they gave good account of themselves to justify their introduction.
Kwara United had earlier introduced Samuel Chisom in place of Omaka, Ayobami Junior for Issa Gata and Barnabas Daniel in place of Alalade, with the changes all having huge impact, only in terms of play, not in goal scoring.
Even as he expressed dissatisfaction with the result, Coach Dogo said that the encounter afforded him the opportunity to know areas where he has to improve on the team, as he targets stability.
“The boys gave good account of themselves, even though we would have loved to win this match, especially as we dominated play. We will try to improve on the areas we have identified as problems for the team, especially in the attack.
Kwara United so far has six points from eight matches, winning just a game, drawing three and losing four, and are expected to play away to Elkanemi Warriors of Maiduguri in the last match of the first round next Wednesday.
For the Coach of Remo Stars, Daniel Ogunmodede, he termed the draw he got against Kwara United as a win, considering the circumstances, as he said that the target was to beat the home team.
“We realised the present predicament of Kwara United, and we emparthise with them, but you must realise that this is football. We came here to win this game, but got a draw. Its good for us, and its like we won the game’, he added.
