The Olympic Games football match between Argentina and Morocco ended in controversy, with Morocco claiming all three points in a 2-1 victory.
The match seemed destined for a 2-2 draw, with Argentina’s Cristian Medina scoring a late equalizer.
However, fans invaded the pitch, protesting the addition of 15 minutes of stoppage time, bringing play to a halt.
After order was restored and the teams had left the field, officials announced that the match had been suspended, not completed. A VAR review then revealed that Medina’s goal was offside, reinstating Morocco’s 2-1 lead.
Players were held in the dressing room for over an for awhile before returning to complete the final three minutes of play.
Morocco held on to secure the win, leaving Argentina stunned and disappointed.
