Elkanemi Warriors FC have emerged champions of the 2024 President Federation Cup after defeating Abia Warriors 2-0 in the grand finale at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Lagos on Saturday afternoon, Owosports.com.ng reports.
Led by Coach Aliyu Zubair, the Maiduguri-based team defied expectations with a spirited performance that won over fans and supporters.
From the opening whistle, Elkanemi Warriors dominated the game, showcasing their impressive football skills. Although they missed an early penalty opportunity, Nasiru Saliu redeemed himself by scoring a brilliant goal in the 30th minute.
Despite Abia Warriors’ triple substitution at halftime, Elkanemi Warriors maintained their momentum, with Nasiru Saliu netting his second goal in the 68th minute to seal the win.
This triumph marks an exceptional season for Elkanemi Warriors, who have also secured promotion to the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) and qualified for the CAF Confederation Cup.
With this victory, they have made history by winning the FA Cup, Nigeria’s oldest football competition, for a record third time, having previously won in 1991 and 1992.
