Sunshine FC and Adezzy FC have booked their place in the quarterfinal of the 2023 Emir Of Ilorin Cup.
Group B runners up Sunshine FC eliminated Group A winners Rhema FC 5-4 on penalties in the round of sixteen (16) fixtures which kicked off on Saturday at the Queen Elizabeth School field.
Garuba Sadiq struck late in the first half to put Sunshine FC in the lead and went into the break with the advantage.
Substitute Adams Kwadi capitalised on a defensive mixup inside the area to head Rhema FC level in the 70th minute.
Nothing to separate the two side at full time which meant that penalties was needed to determine who goes through.
Ibrahim Uthman failed to convert the decisive kick for Rhema FC after Sunshine had missed two from their five kicks handing the advantage to Sunshine who would not miss again as they converted their remaining kick to beat Rhema FC 5-4.
In the second game of the day, Adezzy FC beat El Lador 5-4 on penalties to book their place in the quarterfinal.
Chisom Alex gave Adezzy FC an early lead inside the first five minutes. El Lador grew into game and would get their equaliser on the 33rd minute thanks to a long range effort from Emmanuel Michael.
Despite the pressure from El Lador in the second half Adezzy FC defended well to force the game into penalties after it ended 1-1 at full-time.
Adezzy will go on to win 5-4 after the shootout.
