Iraqi based Club Amanat Baghdad FC have completed the signing of Nasarawa United defender Victor Collins.

The player signed a one-year deal with the club till the end of the 2022/2023 season.

Victor Chukwuemeka Collins made 24 league appearances for the City Miners in the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) last season, helping them to a sixth place finish.

The star defender, who can also play as a midfielder, discussed the agreement and said it was a dream move for him because he had long yearned to play abroad.

Hopefully this will open doors for more deals for him.

When asked if he would miss playing in Nigeria, the former Remo Stars defender said he wouldn’t because the Iraqi team already has two Nigerian players, Yusuf Sadeeq and Chidiebere Henry, who make him feel at home.

The Enugu-born player in the 2019/2020 season had a trial with Latvian side FK Liepaja before coming back to Nigeria to play for Remo Stars, leading the Ikenne based club gaining promotion to the NPFL in 2021.

Collins also got a national team call up in 2019 representing Nigeria-U20 team, the Flying Eagles.

Victor will hope to help Amanat Baghdad who finished 18th last season avoid relegation when they play Duhok in the playoffs final on Saturday.
