In a letter dated 20th of December,2020 and signed by the Acting Secretary of CAF, Abdelmounaim Bah, the cancellatiaon was imperative due to the current surge of Covid-19 pandemic.
“We regret to inform you that due to the worldwide situation that was strongly affected by Covid-19 as well as difficulties all confedrations are facing to complete the qualifiers phase, FIFA decided to cancel both the U-17 and U-20 Women’s World Cups-2020” the statement reads in part.
Sequel to the cancellation, CAF has also cancelled all the qualifiers due to be played ahead of the World Cups.
The development is coming amid the discovery of Covid-19 vaccines in some top countries of the world and the apparent dearth of the vaccines in other part of the planet has possibly occasioned the need for the halt the mundials from holding.
