Super Eagles goalkeeper Francis Uzoho was elated with his outstanding performance against English Premier League club Manchester United in the UEFA Europa League on Thursday.
Uzoho’s Omonia Nicosia traveled to Old Trafford in a MatchDay four encounter with Manchester United with Francis Uzoho given the opportunity to start after injury to first team goalkeeper Fabiano.
The 23-year-old, who has been under scrutiny by Nigerian supporters after a terrible performance against Ghana in the 2022 world cup qualifiers in Abuja in June, displayed class to stop Christiano Ronaldo and teammates from scoring untill the 93rd minute.
Speaking shortly after the game, the former Deportivo La Coruña goalkeeper said coming to Old Trafford and playing was a dream come true for him considering he is a Manchester United fan.
“It’s a dream come through for me. I’ve dreamt to play here for a long time so when I saw the draw and figured out that I will be playing at Old Trafford I wanted to play. I tried to get an opportunity to play so I got it and I am happy to play here”, he said.
Despite the defeat, Uzoho is upbeat about the team’s Performances with the Imo-born player stating that the team deserved better.
“I am not disappointed because we had a good game but I would have preferred to get at least a point, but I am happy because it is not an easy stadium to play in with these big players so I am happy in general.
The Nigerian International who made 11 saves on the night and also getting the man of the match award despite his team’s defeats also noted that his display is the best of his career so far and he is super proud of his teammates for giving their all on the pitch.
After the game at Old Trafford, his cyprus side Omonia Nicosia has now lost all four of their group games in group E.
