This is the inspiring story of two brothers, Tope and Tola Olaleye, who witnessed Tunde Onakoya set a new world record for the longest chess marathon at an impressive 64 hours.
Tope and Tola were enrolled in chess classes by their parents in April 2023, who were excited about the decision and envisioned a bright future for their sons. The classes were taught by a certified Fédération Internationale des Échecs (FIDE) instructor named Bamigbelu Ademola.
In addition to their regular classes, their father arranged private lessons for them, and the boys quickly showcased their talent. They improved rapidly and soon participated in several tournaments before making the move to America.
Within a few months, they received an invitation from Harvard University to join eight other players in an exhibition match against Tunde Onakoya. They were also interviewed for an upcoming documentary. The kids were thrilled at the prospect of meeting Tunde, who holds the record for the longest chess marathon.
Mr. and Mrs. Olaleye kept their coach in Nigeria informed about their sons’ progress in chess. Finally, the entire family traveled to New York City to witness Tunde Onakoya’s remarkable achievement of setting a new world record of 64 hours for the longest chess marathon. The boys were recognized during the roll call for those who participated in the side games, and their mother also enjoyed playing chess.
This experience brought great joy to the entire family, and they always took the opportunity to express their appreciation for their FIDE instructor.

This is us from last Sunday. My kids were invited to play against Tunde Onakoya at Harvard University in an exhibition match. Tunde played against ten players, and they were the youngest participants.
