Nigeria’s Golden Eaglets wrapped up their campaign at the WAFU B U17 Championship in Yamoussoukro, Côte d’Ivoire, with a bronze medal after defeating Burkina Faso 2–0 in the third-place playoff on Friday.

The match was a tight contest in the first half, but the Eaglets showed greater composure after the break. Ahmed Yusuf broke the deadlock in the 50th minute with a powerful low drive from outside the box that left the Burkina Faso goalkeeper with no chance.

Substitute Famous Umole doubled Nigeria’s advantage in the 77th minute, finishing calmly after latching onto a perfectly weighted defence-splitting pass from Paul Ugwu.

Yusuf, who was instrumental throughout the game, was named Most Valuable Player of the match, capping a fine individual performance.

The victory ensures Nigeria finishes third in the regional championship, adding another medal to their rich history at youth level. The team is scheduled to depart Côte d’Ivoire on Saturday.
