Governor Masari Preseason Tournament Matchday 6 Wrap: Tornadoes, Plateau United, Wikki Tourist seal important wins

Niger Tornadoes, Plateau United, and Wikki Tourists recorded vital victories yesterday at the Governor Masari Preseason Tournament to brighten their chances of progressing to the next round of the tournament holding in Katsina.

The Ikon Allah Boys who were surprisingly held to a 1-1 draw by draw by Sokoto United were in their true element thrashing Garkuwa Academy 3-1 for their second win in Group A.

Oche Josiah who was picked as the Man of the Match scored twice in the 38th and 45th minutes after Ahmadu Liman had shot Tornadoes ahead in the third minute while Abba Messi got Garkuwa’s second goal of the tourney in the 79th minute.

In the same vein, Plateau United recovered from their 4-0 whiplash in the hands of Katsina United a day earlier to pip Junior Katsina United 2-1.

Wasiu Jimoh and Kingsley Innocent were on the score-sheet for the Peace Boys in the 39th and 63rd minutes while Abdullahi Moshood’s 56th-minute effort for the Junior Changi Boys turned out to be a consolation goal.

In the third game of the day, Wikki Tourists managed a 2-1 win over Rarara Academy. New signing, Abiodun Thompson drew the first blood for the Giant Elephants in the third minute but Rarara equalised from the penalty spot through Muzbau Nura in the 36th minute before Idris Guda who was selected as the Man of the Match got Wikki’s matchwinner in the 58th minute.

Today in the tournament, Dadin Kowa Academy will go in the hunt for their first win when they face Zamfara United in the first game. Zamfara United caused a big scare on Tuesday when they thrashed Wikki Tourists 5-2 and with seven points from four games, they could cement a place in the next round with a win.

It will be a battle of two brothers when Katsina United(I) lock horns with their Junior team in the second game of the day. The Changi Boys have had a 100 percent record in the Governor Masari Preseason Tournament with wins over Sokoto United, Niger Tornadoes, and Plateau United.

Plateau United (II) and Wikki Tourists tie and Plateau United (I) versus Sokoto United are the remaining two ties also fixed for today as Matchday 6 hots up in the tournament and all games are billed for the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium, Katsina.
