Governor Masari Preseason Tournament Matchday 7 Wrap: Zamfara United, Katsina United Whip Opponents; Plateau United Held

Zamfara United completed their group matches of the Governor Masari Preseason Tournament in grand style with a 5-1 whitewash of Dadin Kowa Academy in a game played on Thursday at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium, Katsina.

Zamfara’s Louis Ntaji got the curtainraiser for the National League side in the 22nd minute while Mudashir Badamosi got the second in the 24th minute. Dadin Kowa threatened a fightback when they halved the deficit through Suleiman Ibrahim in the 44th minute but this drew the ire of Zamfara United who kept their two goals cushion through Ntaji’s second of the game in the 45th minute.

Jamiu Akibu and Lasisi Ahmed added gloss to the result with the fourth and fifth goals in the 76th amd 82nd minutes to ensure Zamfara zoom into the semi final with 10 points from five games.

In the second game of Thusday, Katsina United (1) made it four wins on the bounce after they tamed their Junior team by two goals through Suleman Mohammed and Abdulrashid Ahmed goals in the 72nd and 75th minutes while Plateau United were held to a 1-1 Draw by Sokoto United.

The best spell of the game was reserved for the final five minutes when the Peace Boys ahot into the lead in the 86th minute through Oche Ochowechi but Sokoto United struck back three minutes later with the equaliser through Nasir Momoh.

The group stages will be concluded today with Garkuwa United facing Katsina United (I) while Jnr. Katsina United will slug it out with Niger Tornadoes in the second game of the day.

Wikki Tourists will trade tackles with Dadin Kowa Academy as Katsina United (II) entertain Rarara in a local derby.

Katsina United, Zamfara United, Niger Tornadoes and Wikki Tourists are well placed to contest the semi final matches of the tournament if they are able to sustain the momentum in the games billed for today.

Semi final games hold on Saturday and the grand finale on Sunday.
