Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu has pledged the support of the State government to the 26th National Universities Games Association (NUGA) Games coming up next year March.
According to a statement on his official handle, the Governor, who received the NUGA Games, ‘Torch of Unity’ in his office on Wednesday believes that the sports fiesta will further project the tourism potentials of the state.
The ‘Torch’ was presented to the Governor by the Pro-Chancellor of the University of Lagos Senator Lanre Tejuosho who led the Vice Chancellor, Professor Toyin Ogundipe and other management staff to his office.
“While I congratulated my alma mater for the readiness to host young athletes from across Nigeria, I assured them that our administration will continue to use sports as a rallying point to project the tourism potentials of the state”. The statement reads.
He stated that the government would support the games billed to hold between March 16 and 26, 2022 with human and material resources.
While enjoying the students to take advantage of the NUGA Games, he expressed belief that the sports fiesta will offer them a platform where they can engender the spirit upon which the unity of the country would be strengthened.
“Let me implore our students and youths as the future leaders of this great country to use the opportunity that NUGA 2022 will offer them as a platform to focus on what unites Nigeria and ruminate on ways to build the nation”.
It has been revealed that over 10,000 athletes from 136 universities will compete at the Games.
