Concerned Handball players have called on Governor Nasir El Rufia to rescue them from potential relegation ahead of next year’s Prudent Energy Handball League.
The source revealed that there are rumors the chairman of Kaduna state handball association might stop sponsorship of the two teams playing in the elite league.
He called on the governor to give the state handball team more attention in order for them to be properly motivated.
He said, “We are begging His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasir El Rufai to give us little attention. For now, the state handball teams are not facing much challenge but we learnt our association chairman might pull out due to the heavy funds spent on the state handball team.
“Before the commencement of the handball league, the team camped for three weeks on the expenses of the association chairman. Kada Stars had the highest signing this season and transfer fees where paid also by the chairman.
“I believe the governor will not be happy to hear that both teams playing in the Prudent Energy Handball League got relegated after our fine performance this year. The team had no issues concerning feeding and accommodation in the league because our welfare was well taken care of”.
“If one man is carrying the burden of a state government, then there will be problem. Handball has a budget and every year, they are presented to the sports ministry. We hope the budget meant for the association is properly attended to next year in order to avoid the teams pulling out of the league”.
The source revealed that the sports ministry gave the team a ridiculous amount of money to attended the league and a bus which conveyed 33 players and two officials which conveyed 34 players, 4 officials including the secretary.
Reporters gathered that the players have threatened to leave for others teams after the league if they are not employed by the state.
It was gathered that none of the players and coaches are employed by the state government; neither are they given allowances
