How I started Playing Table Tennis – Veteran Player Segun Toriola

Veteran Nigerian Table Tennis player Segun Toriola has narrated the story of how he started playing table tennis back in Abeokuta, Ogun state where he grew up.

Segun who has since appeared at seven Olympics games confirmed that his family is a sport family where everyone played table tennis.

He said National team players as at that time came to his father’s house to play the game.

Segun Toriola made the revelation while featuring on BCOS TV flagship Sports programme Fans Forum, anchored by Boluwaji Ogunmola and Produced by Adewale Tijani.

When asked how he started playing the game, Segun said, “I started playing table tennis in Abeokuta, my family is a sport family, everybody, my brothers played table tennis, I’m the only one still playing, my father have a table tennis board at home that’s why I started playing table tennis because most of the ex-Nigeria player too like Atanda Musa, they all played in my father’s house so that’s how I started playing tennis.”

The Ogun state born athlete is one of the most decorated athletes in Nigeria, the first from the West Africa country to feature in seven Olympics games, the debut being in 1992 in Barcelona.
