Nigeria International Shehu Abdullahi has expressed his delight after signing for Bulgarian side PFC Levski following his exit from Cyprus side Omonia Nicosia, reports OwoSports.com.ng.
The 29-year-old versatile player joined as a free agent after spending two years at Omonia Nicosia.
Speaking on his move on LEVSKI TV, minutes after being introduced by the club’s executive director Ivaylo Ivkov, Shehu Abdullahi expressed joy in joining the club.
“I am very glad to be here. Before I came to Sofia, I received messages from Levski fans and I already feel that I am at home. The club took very good care of me.
“I came to show my best, help the team and achieve the goals this season,” Shehu began.
PFC Levski who has a rich history having been crowned Bulgarian League champions on 26 occasions and winning the Bulgarian Cup 27 times drew Shehu’s attention.
“I have heard about Levski before, but when the coach and the club contacted me, I researched it and found out that Levski is one of the biggest teams in Bulgaria. I chose to come here because of the history of this club, and because of its goals and ambitions. As a player who wants to maintain a high level, you cannot refuse Levski. I hope that with my arrival, I will bring success to the club,” added the Nigerian footballer.
The Super Eagles full-back who started playing in the NPFL for Kano Pillars before moving abroad to play for Kuwait side Qadsia, then moving to Europe in 2016 where he represented Portuguese side Clube de Futebol União, Greek side Anorthosis Famagusta FC, Turkish club Bursaspor and AC Omonia in Cyprus concluded on the various roles he has played for his previous clubs.
“I play three positions – central midfielder, central defender and right back, but it all depends on the coach, I am ready to play all of them. The coach will decide where to play me and I am ready to play anywhere,” concluded Abdullahi Shehu.
In January 2014, late coach Stephen Keshi, handed the Sokoto-born player to the Nigeria 23-man squad for the 2014 African Nations Championship where Nigeria had a third-place finish, making 37 appearances for the three-time African champions to date.
The Plateau United academy graduate will hope to move into his new club starting XI when they host CSKA Sofia on Sunday with the team currently sitting in the ninth position on the log after playing seven league games.
