Ideye Blasts Osimhen Over Disparaging Remarks Against Finidi

Former Super Eagles striker Brown Ideye has condemned Victor Osimhen’s recent outburst against coach Finidi George, urging the Napoli star to apologize for his behavior.

Ideye, a 2013 Africa Cup of Nations winner, expressed disappointment in Osimhen’s Instagram Live rant, where he attacked Finidi and Super Eagles fans who questioned his commitment to the national team.

“I told him I’m disappointed in you, but what you have to do is to go back to that social media and apologize to Nigerians and Finidi,” Ideye said in an X space conversation hosted by The Naija Football Conference.

“He’s a legend, and you don’t disrespect people like that. I don’t care who you are, I don’t care how many awards you have won, I don’t care what you have done in your club. Africa’s best player don’t behave the way you behave.”

Ideye emphasized the need for a code of conduct in the Super Eagles, citing the team’s underperformance in recent years due to a lack of discipline and nationalism.

Ideye did note the absence of a genuine leader in the present Super Eagles team, unlike in his time with Joseph Yobo, Vincent Enyeama, and John Obi Mikel, where certain behaviors were off-limits.

Ideye’s comments come after an alleged dispute between Osimhen and Finidi over the former’s commitment to the national team, which led to Osimhen’s public outburst.

The incident has sparked a wider debate about discipline and conduct in the Super Eagles, with Ideye’s comments adding weight to the conversation.
