Organisers of the 3rd edition of the Ilechukwu U-13 grassroot football tournament have fixed Sunday 19th of September as the date for the final.
The tournament which kicked off in August in Lagos will see BamiseGod battle 36 Lion for the trophy at Abete Playing Ground in Iwaya, Sabo-Yaba.
Defending champions Mighty Star and five other teams, Akeweje, Simario, BamiseGod, 36 Lion and Living Legend took part in this year’s tournament.
The grassroot soccer tourney is a pet project of former Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries, MFM FC of Lagos now Plateau United of Jos Head Coach, Fidelis Ilechukwu.
In his words, “Am super excited as the soccer fiesta has got to its finale and the project has given more grassroot players the needed platform to showcase their talents.
“We hope to sustain this project as it’s my little way of giving back to the youths through football championships like this.
“I’m a staunch advocate of grassroot players, as I have belief in them and I will always invest the funds I have to see these players grow, as they are the bedrock of our football if truly we want it to grow to the level we see in Europe and other parts of the world.
” I have seen a few quality players in this edition and I am optimistic that they will go places in their careers.
“I want to congratulate and say to all the teams that took part in this year’s tournament, that they are all champions as they all have the quality to be one in next editions.
” For the two finalists, I urged them to strived to win fairly and show sportsmanship in the final.”
