Japanese goalkeeper Leo Kokubo and midfielder Joel Chima Fujita are set to become the first Black athletes to represent Japan in men’s football at the 2024 Olympics.
Born in Japan to Nigerian fathers and Japanese mothers, Kokubo and Fujita embody the country’s growing diversity and are proud ambassadors of the Samurai Blue jersey.
Their shared club affiliation with Belgian Pro League side Sint-Truiden adds another layer of significance to their journey.
