Kwara United’s stand-in Captain, Kabiru Mohammed, is thrilled following his team’s 1-0 victory over visitors Katsina United in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) week 18 tie played at the Kwara State Stadium Complex in Ilorin on Sunday night.

Substitute Ismail Gata converted from the spot late in the game after a Katsina United defender handled the ball with his arm inside the area. The goal was pivotal as the Harmony Boys claimed maximum points.

“We played double away and didn’t play Enyimba, so we had to put in all the effort to win this game, knowing that our next game is against Shooting Stars,” Mohammed said in a post-match conference. “We worked gradually, process by process, and we’re always ready to fight and win for Kwara United.”

Mohammed expressed his desire to make history by winning the NPFL title, a feat that has never been achieved by a team from Kwara State. To achieve this goal, he called on the management and state government to provide more motivation and support for the team in the second round.

“Some of us didn’t pick up on time, which was the reason for our struggles in the early stages of the season,” Mohammed explained.

“But everybody understands each other now, and the coaches have put in more effort to ensure we’re playing well for the team and making the state proud. We want to finish in 5th position this first round, and in the second round, we need more motivation from the management and state government to help us achieve our goal of winning the title.”

The result moved Kwara United up to 11th on the log with 23 points, having played 17 games.
