Kogi State Governor Receives UFC Champion Kamaru Usman

The Executive Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello on Thursday received the UFC reigning welterweight champion Kamaru Usman at government house Lokoja.

According to the social media handle of Kogi SWAN (Sports Writers Association of Nigeria), the UFC champion who arrived Nigeria on Wednesday from his base in the United States of America was received by the Governor at Lugard house this morning

The Nigerian-American was welcomed by the speaker of the state house of assembly, Rt Hon.Matthew Kolawole , Chairman of the Kogi state sports council board who also doubles as the Chairman of Kogi United and Confluence Queens FC Hon Abdulmalik Isah Dolly and Chairperson of Kogi State Athletics Association, Fatimah Yusuf Olukoju.

Kamaru, a professional mixed Martial art and freestyle wrestler who currently competes in the welterweight division of the ultimate fighting championship (UFC) was in the state to help promote the sports in the state.

Usman was Nigeria’s first ever undisputed UFC welterweight champion.

According to the Guardian, the Edo State born who has cemented his position with 14 straight wins, making history as the longest ever holder of a win-streak in the division during his visit is billed for activities among which will have him initiating a community activation plan that involves making lives better for his people.

“I looked at my passport and realised I hadn’t been home since I was a kid, that’s when I knew it was time,” Kamaru was quoted saying.
