KWAFEST receives boost as 16 local governments flags get hoisted

The 7th Kwara Sports Festival inches forward as flags hoisting ceremony for the festival was held in Ilorin on Sunday.

The flags hoisting ceremony held at the Kwara Stadium Complex in Ilorin preceded the opening ceremony which will hold today, 27th January,2020.

The event had all the festival designated flags for each local government of the State being hoisted in the presence of the top government functionaries.

The ceremony was performed under the auspices of the Director of Personnel Management of all the 16 Local Governments signalled the formal commencement of the festival.

Speaking at the ceremony, Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development who is also the Chairman of the Main Organising Committe, Hon. Joana Nnazua Kolo admonished the participants to show case their talents positively and expressed belief that the fiesta would be of success.

While making his own submission , the Vice Chairman of the MOC, Mr. Hammed Adio acknowledged the fact that some leadership qualities of the State Governor which he outlined as uncommon tenacity of purpose, sincerity, proactiveness and the not business as usual orientation has all formed the driving force of the committee members who have been working assiduously to make the fiesta a memorable and colourful one.

The Olympic medalist and former Commissioner of Sports in the State while appreciating the hospitality and rousing welcome the MOC enjoyed during their tour of the local government with the Torch of Unity said the local governments have demonstrated some reality of the festival as Festival of Peace, Culture, Unity and Togetherness as they have shown great enthusiasm and passion and the needed cooperation to make the sports fiesta a success.

Hon. Joshua Awolola, Chairman Kwara State House of Assembly Committe on Sports while reinstating the commitment of the State Assembly to the cause of sports development in the State enjoined all the participants to be a good ambassador of thier respective local governments and put in their best with the hope of using the festival as a stepping stone to a greater heights of thier career.

Giving the Closing remark, The Kwara State Director of Sport, Coach Tunde Kazeem also appraised the Governor for providing the enabling environment to enlivened the fiesta which was held 15 years ago.

Some of the dignitaries at the event were , the Commissioner for Finance, Mrs Yemi Olasubo, former Accountant General of the State, Alhaji Tunde Abdulkareem, Ibraheem Attahiru, the Senior Special Assistant to the State Governor on Sports Matters and a host of others.

The 38 Games- featured Sports event will commence Monday afternoon with the opening ceremony taking place at the Kwara State Stadium Complex in Ilorin.
