Kwara FA Shifts Gov’s Cup To Wednesday, As Teams Begin Arrival Tuesday


The much anticipated Kwara State Under 15 Governor’s Cup has been moved forward to Wednesday, 20 December, according to fresh details from the Kwara State Football Association, FA, organisers of the event.

The Governor’s Cup is a flagship soccer tournament where all 16 local government participate with their very best players in the age category.

Initially billed to start Sunday with the arrival into Kwara of Mall Ibrahim Gusau, Nigerian Football Federation, NFF, president on courtesy call, the event has now been shifted to Wednesday.

According to Hon. Idris Abdullahi Musa, aka Thuraya, the state FA chairman, the shift was necessary to allow for better preparation.

“We intend it to be both glamorous and also developmental in the approach,” Thuraya said.

With the new arrangement, the NFF president may not be part of ceremony.

Signs of good things for the football tournament came by way of revelation that the Governor’s Cup would be fully sponsored by Sen Umar Sadiq, senatorial representative of Kwara North.

By the new arrangement, arrival date for teams would be Tuesday. Screening commences by 7 am Wednesday. Opening ceremony and first match of the tournament will commence by 3 pm.

Other details gathered on the opening ceremony have it that there will be a trophy presentation, giving of jerseys to all 16 local government participants in the championship and match past by participating teams at the main bowl of the Kwara State Stadium.
