The Kwara State Sports Commission has pledged its support for Abdul Momoh, a CAF-accredited photographer, ahead of his photography masterclass scheduled for December 17, 2024, in Ilorin. The event, aimed at enhancing the skills of aspiring photojournalists, underscores the Commission’s commitment to supporting initiatives that foster professional development in sports journalism.
At a press briefing held at the Taiwo Awoniyi Media Sports Centre, SWAN Secretariat, Stadium Complex Ilorin, Mallam Bola Magaji, the Executive Chairman of the Commission, praised Momoh for organizing the seminar. He described it as a significant step toward equipping future photojournalists with the necessary skills to excel in the field.
Mallam Magaji further encouraged journalists to take advantage of the Commission’s open-door policy to seek clarifications on sports-related matters. “This will help curb misinformation and ensure accurate reporting,” he noted.
Speaking through his consultant, Bayour Issah, Abdul Momoh explained that the seminar aims to refresh participants’ skills and broaden their understanding of photography. He urged members of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) and other journalists to participate, emphasizing the importance of continuous learning in the profession.
Key stakeholders, including Chief Alloy Chukwuemeka, Director of Football at ABS Ilorin FC, and Alhaji Ibrahim Bako, Administrator of Kwara Football Academy, commended Momoh’s effort to give back to the community. They called on stakeholders to rally behind the initiative for its success.
Kwara SWAN Chairman, Ayodeji Ismail, assured the organizers of the association’s full support, aligning the masterclass with SWAN’s objective of enhancing the professional capacity of its members through training and retraining.
This masterclass, combining theoretical and practical sessions, is expected to leave a lasting impact on participants while promoting professionalism in sports photography.
