It was a glamorous ceremony on Friday, December 10, 2021 at the Banquet Hall of the Kwara Hotels in Ilorin when the Kwara State Chapter of Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) dolled out awards to outstanding personalities in the State.
Tagged celebration of excellence, it was a moment of reward for many deserving personalities who have paid their dues in the world of sports within and outside the state generally.
One of the highlights of the occasion was the investiture of Prince Oladimeji Ladi Thompson as the first ever indigenous Kwara State Pillar Of Sports owing to his numerous contributions to the growth of Sports in the State and the country at large.
The astute businessman and sports administrator was the patron of the Kwara State chapter of the Sports writers Association of Nigerian (SWAN) before his appointment as the Pillar of Sports in the State in October 2021.
In his acceptance speech, Oladimeji, who is royal Prince from Omugo in Oro- Ago Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State Nigeria thanked the leadership of SWAN for the award and stressed that the development of Sports should not be left for Government alone to do.
“I have always said it here and there that we don’t have to leave sports for Government alone. sometimes we need to put our own little efforts so that people coming behind can benefit from iit and especially so that we can take Youth away from social vices”he said.
He noted that sports is all about rallying point for everyone irrespective of our religion, political and social affiliation, says he will continue to do more Sports Development in Kwara State.
A total number of 63 awardees including Royal fathers, coaches, athletes, referee, sports administrators, organisations and notable stakeholders were recipients of awards of different categories.
