Kwara United vice-captain Kabiru Mohammed has expressed his delight after receiving an invitation to join Nigeria’s national team for the 2025 Championship of African Nations (CHAN) qualifiers against Ghana.

Interim manager Augustine Eguavoen unveiled a 35-man provisional squad on Friday, featuring Kwara United duo Kabiru Mohammed and Aimufua Aisosa.

The CHAN qualifiers will see Nigeria face Ghana in a two-legged tie, with the first leg scheduled for December 20-22 and the second leg taking place a week later. The winner will secure a spot at the 8th CHAN finals, held from February 1-28, 2025, in Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania.

Notably, the CHAN tournament exclusively features players from domestic leagues.

“I am absolutely delighted and humbled to receive this call-up to the Super Eagles for the 2025 CHAN qualifiers against Ghana. It’s a tremendous honor to represent my beloved country, Nigeria, on the international stage.

“I’m eager to give my all, leave everything on the pitch, and make my nation proud. This invitation is a testament to the hard work and dedication I’ve put into my craft, and I’m grateful for the trust Coach Augustine Eguavoen has placed in me.”

Kwara United’s inclusion in the squad underscores the team’s growing influence in Nigerian football.
