Chinese base experience Super Falcons defender Onome Ebi has explained why it looks difficult for Nigerian players to reach 100 International caps playing for the country.
The defender who just recently clocked 37- years citied Lack of Structures in Our Youth System has made it hard for Nigerian players to reach such milestone.
She however revealed that in other country you get picked at a young age through the academy why in Nigeria you have to go through the amateur league before gaining recognition why the player is already getting old.
“I will say in Nigeria we catch talents old, while other countries catch them young, in other countries that I’ve played, there are plenty academy and players moved to national from 15, 16 years of age,” she told to Brila.
“It’s difficult in Nigeria, no academy, you have to start from the amateur league and that will take years before one gets to a top-level.
Only Joseph Yobo, Vincent Enyeama and former Super Falcons star Maureen Madu have reach 100 International caps playing for Nigeria.
Onome Ebi is currently on 81 Caps with the Super Falcons became the first African Footballer to play in five Fifa World Cup Tournaments, taking part in the 2003, 2007, 2011 2015, and 2019 editions of the FIFA Women’s World Cup and the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
Ebi is also part of the Nigerian Super Falcon squad to Win the 2008, 2010, 2012,2014, 2016 and 2018 editions of the African Women’s Championship, winning the tournament four times 2010, 2014) 2016 and 2018.
