Minister Of Youth And Sports Development Announces Plans To Resurrect Headmasters And Principals Cup

The Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Mr. Sunday Dare has disclosed plans for a return of the famous inter primary and secondary schools competitions also known as the Headmasters Cup and Principals Cup.

He made this disclosure when 9 out of the 36 athletes from the last National Youth Games held in the University of Ilorin, invited for screening paid him a visit at his office at the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abuja in the company of their parents, coaches and representatives of the Nigerian Tulip International Colleges (NTIC).

It was also disclosed that a total of 25 male and female junior athletes who excelled at the competition, had been offered scholarships by the NTIC to complete their secondary education.

The Minister who highlighted that 328 junior athletes were discovered during the National Youth Games, thanked the school’s management on behalf of the Federal Government of Nigeria and the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development for the scholarship which he said is in line with the efforts of his Ministry to promote grassroot sports development and called upon other corporate organisations and schools to emulate the NTIC.

Speaking further on the inter-schools competitions, he said his Ministry would work in collaboration with the Ministry of Education to stage the competitions to unearth other hidden talents across the country in order to grow and nurture young talents who will take over from the older ones when the time is right, while adding that a date for the commencement and modalities for the tournaments would be announced at a later date.
