The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially confirmed that Super Eagles midfielder Wilfred Ndidi is eligible to feature in Sunday’s crucial playoff encounter against DR Congo.
This clarification comes after concerns were raised regarding Ndidi’s availability following the yellow card he received in the sixth minute during Nigeria’s World Cup qualifying match against Gabon following a foul on Denis Bouanga.
According to CAF regulations, cautions accumulated during the World Cup qualifying campaign do not carry over into the playoff stage. Only players with confirmed suspensions are ruled out of the knockout fixtures.
This ruling provides a significant boost for the Super Eagles, as Ndidi remains a key presence in the heart of Nigeria’s midfield.
Ndidi was instrumental in Nigeria’s 4-1 victory over Gabon on Thursday and his availability will be vital as the team prepares for a high-stakes showdown against DR Congo, with a spot in the next phase on the line.
