Abdullahi Biffo, the Technical Adviser of Kwara United says his boys will prove their worth against Rivers United as they slug it out in one of the match week three of the new NPFL season.
Although Rivers United are currently one of the best team in the country, they doing pretty well on the continent, won two of their last NPFL matches, the gaffer rebuffed their invincibility to the new approach of harmony boys.
“If they think they are going to face Kwara United of last season, I think they will pay duly for that. It’s a new team entirely, new philosophy and mentality and we are going to give them a good fight”, he said in an interview on Kwara Sports Arena, a WhatsApp platform.
Biffo recalled that Rivers United won their home game against them last season and came to Ilorin to share the point. He warned the Stanley Eguma led side to be ready for a fireworks in the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Porthacourt.
Explaining why the Brazilian, Lucas Alves has not been featured in any game, the former Niger Tornadoes coach said the new import still has a role to play in the team but need sometime to adapt and most especially want him to experience the game at their home ground before having to travel with the team.
“In as far as we want the best for him and the team, we have to give him time to adapt to the situation and really want to see how he will play at home because he has never played in Nigeria before. So, we want him to see the development of the team and want him to understand what we want for him.
“Apart from that, I think we have the issue on some of the players registeration which I think the management are trying to do their best to get it right and as I am talking to you now I think we have just been cleared about him.
Biffo emphasised that there is always a space for every player in the team in as far as they continue to prove their readiness and substance through training.
The Stanley Eguma led side will be looking forward to consolidate their impressive run into the season in tomorrow’s game while the visitor also rely on their much pronounced away win against another NPFL giant, Plateau United in Jos in the match week one.
Kwara United couldn’t play their second match of the season against Enyimba FC because of the latter CAF Champions League engagement. The People’s Elephant eventually lost the game against El- Merrekh of Sudan on 4-2 goals aggregate and will now be trying out their luck at the Confederation Cup with a possible face-off with Rivers United if they should win their second leg duel against Bloem Celtic of South Africa.
Biffo assured Kwarans that the team had traveled to bring back the 3 points and with all the 20 man squad in high spirit, he believes the team will have another positive course to leverage on when they face Akwa United in their next home game.
While calling for more support, he pointed out that tomorrow’s game is not going to be a decider of the team’s success in the season as they will continue to work hard to justify the investment and regain their competitive edge.
“There is no any other time than now to change the story of the club, this is the right time for the team to give back to the state government what they have invested.
With six points from their previous two games, Rivers United are currently occupying second position on the log with goal difference setting them apart from Nassarawa United. Kwara United are seating 6th on the log.
The game is billed for 4pm on Sunday at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium, Porthacourt.
