In a bid to address the recent poor performance of the Super Eagles and revamp Nigerian football, the Executive Committee of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) held a hybrid meeting on June 12, 2024, and took decisive steps to improve the state of the game in the country.
The committee apologized for the dismal output of the Senior Men National Team in the ongoing 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification series and pledged to work assiduously to ensure better preparations for upcoming matches. To achieve this, the NFF resolved to employ an expatriate Technical Adviser for the Super Eagles and beef up the Technical Department with more qualitative hands.
The committee also expressed displeasure with the poor attitude of some players to national assignments and unanimously agreed to implement a robust scouting program to identify talented Nigeria-eligible players globally. This move aims to inject fresh blood into the team and enhance its competitiveness.
In addition, the NFF planned to convene a Stakeholders’ Forum to discuss amendments to the current NFF Statutes in conjunction with FIFA. This move is expected to bring Nigerian football in line with global best practices and improve governance.
The committee also showed support for the Senior Women National Team, Super Falcons, as they prepare for the Women’s Olympic Football Tournament in France. The NFF approved a two-phase camping program for the U20 Women National Team, Falconets, ahead of the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup finals in Colombia.
The meeting demonstrated the NFF’s commitment to revitalizing Nigerian football and ensuring success in upcoming tournaments. With these measures in place, fans can look forward to improved performances from the Super Eagles and other national teams.
