Nigerian born Chelsea defender Fikayo Tomori revealed he had to put in hard work to challenge his self to the Top.
The Nigerian decent defender stated that getting into the Chelsea first team in the early weeks of the season was crucial for his confidence.
Speaking to the club’s official website, chelseasfc.com, the 22-year-old says that he felt that he has done enough to show that he can take on the Premier League by storm.
“I wanted to challenge myself at the next level, which was the Premier League. I wanted to do it for Chelsea, the club that I’ve been at since I was eight; a club that’s won the Champions League, the Premier League, FA Cups, everything,” he said.
He revealed that his two years loan spell at Derby County helped in propelling him for the next challenge ahead at Chelsea.
“It was just about me feeling like I belonged and that I could play at this level. I had spent two-and-a-half years in the Championship and with Derby last season I managed to win Player of the Year and get to Wembley for the play-off final so I knew I’d had a good season.”
The 22-Years-Old has enjoyed a productive season with Derby in the Championship last term, as Frank Lampard former side went to the play-off final, where they narrowly missed out on promotion to the Premier League, and being named the Rams’ Player of the Year.
“If you train well, you can get in the team and if you play well then you’ll stay in the team. Having that breeds this friendly, competitive nature and spirit that we have and it can only be a positive thing.’he Concluded.
Tomori who has declined Nigeria to represent England has been an Integral parts of Frank Lampard’s Chelsea campaign this Season scoring a stunner against Wolves, in as many appearance he has had his season
