Coach Bisoye Henshaw says the victory over Dannaz FC on Monday was the right tonic the Magic Stars needed going forward in the Nationwide League One season.
It was a game of two halves at the Legacy Pitch on NLO Matchday 5, that saw two penalties at both ends, with Dannaz FC left to rue their poor finish and miss from the spot kick.
Captain Fantastic, Alabi Monsuru got the game alive scoring Magic Stars’ first goal of the season in less than 10 minutes of play from the penalty spot after he sent the Dannaz goalkeeper the wrong way.
Dannaz’s defender had recklessly tackled Magic Stars goal bound striker in the box and the referee wasted no time to point to the spot. The Magicians then took the lead into the break.
With five minutes played in the second half, Magic Stars paid dearly for their schoolboy defending, after they gifted the visitors a soft penalty for an infringement in the box from a set-piece from 20 yards.
Dannaz FC’s penalty take failed to make the most of the chance to level up the game after his effort rattled the crossbar to the delight of the Magic Stars and anguish for his team.
The visiting then paid the price of not killing the game off, as Quadri Jimoh put the icing on the cake for Magic Stars’ second goal in the closing 10 minutes of the game.
An ecstatic Henshaw told OwoSports.com.ng of the game. “The victory against Dannaz FC on Matchday 5 of the Nationwide League One (NLO) season is an important one for the team.
“The 3 points are what we have been yearning for, having recorded two defeats and a draw from three matches. It’s a big moral boost to the team.
“Psychologically, everyone now understands that any team can be beaten and it’s just one being able to understand how to make good use of the half chances and other opportunities that comes your way in the course of the game.
“We can now capitalize on this victory, by preparing well to ensure we get another victory in our next game against Allifey FC on Wednesday. That is what we want as we just want to keep winning, in the end, seat comfortably on the log.
“I wouldn’t want to discuss tactics as regards our build-up to our next game, as every duel has its rhythm and different approach, which may not suit one game but another and that is how it works.
“But I want to assure our fans that they will see a play better than that my lads displayed against Dannaz FC.”
