…Super Eight Abolished as Top Teams Gain Automatic Promotion
The Nigeria National League (NNL) will officially kick off on Friday, November 8, 2025, following confirmation by the league body during its General Assembly held in Kaduna on Tuesday evening.
According to the organizers, the star match of the season opener will feature Lobi Stars against City FC of Abuja, setting the tone for what promises to be an exciting campaign in the country’s second-tier football division.
The NNL further outlined the framework for promotion and relegation for the new season. The bottom three clubs in Conferences A and B will be relegated, while the last two teams in Conferences C and D will also drop to the lower division.
The league body also confirmed that there will be no Super Eight playoffs this season. Instead, the top team in each Conference will automatically gain promotion to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), making the battle for the top spot more intense than ever.
