……Hails Clubs Owners, LMC’s call to end NPFL
Former Chairman Nigerian National League NNL and Chairman of Abia Warriors Pastor Emeka Inyama has backed the decision taken by the Clubs Owners and League Management Company (LMC) to end the 2019/2020 football season, owosports reports.
The League Management Company (LMC) on Wednesday decleared the season concluded as Plateau United and Rivers United were chosen to fly the country colours in the Caf Champions league with Enyimba representing in the CAF confederations cup.
Meanwhile the football administration turned clergyman has supported the decision taken by LMC and clubs owners to end the league season citing the damages done by Covid-19 pandemic during an exclusive interview with foremost WhatsApp platform Family United By Football.
“There is no other way now than to end the league. We are in perilous times. Covid 19 is hurting, country on lock down, economy is dead. Nothing is happening.
“It’s only natural that we end the league hence we voted overwhelmingly to end the league using PPG. It’s the international best practice and it has also been applied by many countries.
“Clubs must look inwards on how to manage, because the next thing you will see will shock you. Govenment is cutting costs and I bet you football will be the major casualty”, he stated.
When asked how tough was it organizing a season with more than 40 teams going by the fact that his reign as NNL Boss was without a major sponsor he however pointed to his display of professionalism towards handling things during his time as NNL chairman.
“You will agree with me that NNL under me as chairman was it’s very best so far.
“We organised the league without hitch for four years with promotion and relegation.
“In my time it was not up to 40 clubs but I was very professional and firm in our decision making. We enjoyed a lot of goodwill from the clubs because of the way we managed the league.
We had about 3 sponsors then and we ran the league.
“The NNL is in urgent need for survival. It needs a surgical approach to overhaul the place. For a league to play just few matches and stop is not salutary and NFF should intervene to revive the ailing league. It’s the support league and critical to the success of NPFL and should not be overlooked” he concluded
