President of Magic Stars FC, Kayode Agboola, says it’s an incredible moment for his newly promoted Nigeria National League team.
Magic Stars who defeated Ojodu City FC 5-3 on penalties in a keenly contested encounter at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasingba-Ibadan, secured promotion from the Nationwide League One (NLO), alongside First Bank, Kun Kahalifat, Basira FC, Barau FC, Igbajo United and Emalex FC.
“I’m overwhelmed, grateful to Allah (God) for this feat, and as excited with this good result.
“Both teams deserved to be in the play-off. When it comes to the penalty shootout, I don’t feel any pressure, but for me, it’s thanks to God.
“What an incredible moment for Magic Stars, great game, nobody gave us the chance to be here but at the end, we made history in our third season as a club,” said a delighted Agboola.
Asked if his mission for the club has been achieved following the NNL promotion ticket.
“I know we have a lot of football talents in Nigeria, and also know what it means to having such talent and not achieve one’s goal in life. That’s was my aim of setting up Magic Stars, and I am happy they made me proud.
“I want to congratulate the team as so much effort has been put in, from finishing unbeaten at the Legacy Pitch 1 Centre to crowning our efforts securing promotion.
“Thank you very much to our fans and supports, as they have always proven to be the 12th man on the pitch for us during our matches in the regular season and in the play-off that went well in Ibadan.”
Reacting to Magic Stars’ future of securing promotion, “I’m yet to map out a plan going into the NNL nor want to remain in the NLO come next season. I want everyone associated with Magic Stars to enjoy the moment, and we see how it goes.”
