NPFL ‘Golden Boot’ Contender Talks Tough: Beginning And Father’s Rejection

The NPFL first round has come to an end and Steven Jude has become a force to reckon with on the bulletins of the Nigeria elite league.

It’s been a great season for the prodigy who has now made 19 appearances for Kwara United, amassing seven goals and six assists to his credit in the course of the games.

He has had his hand wet with prizes and gifts of different nature since the beginning of the season among which is the first person to score hat trick in the current NPFL season and also the ‘most improved player’ award of his club.

Steven is a promising and talented forward whose exceptional performance has formed the nucleus of Kwara United FC unprecedented success in the league.

Kwara United are the current leader of the NPFL with 36 points and Coach Abdullahi Biffo has found an ideal mind and leg in Steven towards pulling off goal scenes in their opponent’s den- he has thus proved effective supporting the cutting edge.

“It was a great one and everybody are so excited. We ended the first round of the league on top and pray at the end of the second round we remain at the top of the log”, Jude told owosports.com.ng in an exclusive interview.

He noted that the inspiration and motivation behind his current form is due to his focus coupled with the level at which he has been learning from the coaches.

For Jude, the beginning was very tough as choosing football as a career has never formed a good impression in his father’s mind.

“It has really not been easy growing up playing football because my daddy has always wanted my education first so anything pertaining to football; I got no supports from him, said the former Ikorodu United player.

But even while his father was holding the other side of the hemisphere, his late mother was a pillar of support and he has determined to make the best out of his career to justify her mother’s confidence in him.

“My lovely late mummy has been the one supporting me all through and that’s why I owe her a better outcome from my football career. I don’t want all her efforts to be in vain.

Having set a double digits goal target for himself, the youngster recently said his urge for goals will never overwhelm the target of his team adding that there should never be need for him to be selfish in goal mouth- his record of goal assists has validated the assertion.
