Rangers International grabbed a hard-fought 1–0 win over Katsina United in their rescheduled Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Matchday 7 clash at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu, on Monday morning.
The encounter, originally halted on Sunday evening due to torrential rain, resumed at 8:30 a.m. with 25 minutes left to play. Both teams returned determined to grab maximum points in front of a lively home crowd.
Before the stoppage, Chidebere Nwobodo had missed a clear header from a set piece, while Godwin Obaje’s close-range effort flew over the bar amid the downpour. Evans Ogbonda also came close with a powerful drive early in the second half.
On resumption, Rangers broke the deadlock as Nnamdi Igwilo’s pinpoint cross met Obaje, who coolly slotted home in the 73rd minute for his third goal in two matches continuing his fine scoring form after his brace against Wikki Tourists.
Katsina United pushed for an equaliser but couldn’t break through. Tempers flared when Rangers’ striker Alex Jerry was shown a red card for punching an opponent during a corner melee.
Victory for Rangers lifts them to 14th on the NPFL log with eight points from seven games.
The Flying Antelopes will host Abia Warriors in a high-stakes Oriental Derby on Wednesday in Enugu.
