Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) champions, Akwa United have unveiled former Sunshine Stars coach Deji Ayeni as the club’s new head coach, Owosports.com.ng reports.
Ayeni will take over from coach Kennedy Boboye who left his role as coach the Promise Keepers in February with his assistant Ali Jolomi being in the dug-out for their final matches of the first round.
Speaking to newsmen after the unveiling which took place this afternoon (Thursday 24th) at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium the former Sunshine Stars of Akure coach said he was going revive and bring back the winning mentality which saw them emerge champions last term and make sure they qualify for the continent.
“First thing is that the spirit of winning mentality has to come back into the team. I can assure that with every game and kind of brand the club is, we have to go back to it and everyone has to be smiling again and believe the team has really come to stay for better future.
“I believe at the end of the season, we will get the continental slot.” He assured.
