Enyimba International began their 2022/2023 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) campaign with an impressing 2-1 victory over Nasarawa United at their adopted home ground the New Jos Stadium.
Nasarawa United’s home ground in Lafia failed to get a pass mark from the league management body enhance the need to adopt an alternative home ground to prosecute their matches.
The Solid Miners suffered a disappointing 2-1 home defeat to Enyimba FC in their opening NPFL matchday fixture thanks to goals from Elijah Akanni and Imoh Obit.
Former MFM midfielder Akanni Elijah gifted the visitors the lead in the 32nd minutes while Imoh Obot made it 2-0 in the 38th minute as the they went into the break with a comfortable lead.
Nasarawa United showed an improved performance in the second half and almost scored in the 77th minute but Enyimba’s goalkeeper Ojo lived up to expectations to save the ball.
The host was awarded a late penalty in the game but Enyimba’s goalkeeper was on hand to save the kick while Oche Josiah made it 1-2 from the rebounds.
Enyimba held on to get the important win despite Nasarawa United’s late attacking threats.
Next for Enyimba will be a home game against Akwa United who are looking to redeem themselves after the shocking home defeat to Bendel Insurance last weekend in Uyo.
