Actions will begin on Tuesday 6th June as the 2022/2023 Nigeria Women’s Football League Premiership (NWFL) Super Six the concluding part for the Women’s League in Nigeria, gets underway in at the Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba, Delta State.
FC Robo Queens of Lagos will battle former champions, Rivers Angels of Port Harcourt in the opening game at 10am in Group A.
The second match of the day will be in Group B between Delta Queens and Confluence Queens of Lokoja.
The Day 2 matches will come up on the 7th June when five times Champions, Bayelsa Queens face off with FC Robo, While Confluence Queens will go head to head against Edo Queens.
The Match Day 3 scheduled for the 9th of June, will be a South- South derby between Rivers Angels Football Club and Bayelsa Queens kickoff time 10am, while the second game will be played between Edo Queens and Delta Queens.
All Group A matches were slated to be played at 10am, and all Group B were fixed for 4pm, this was done to enable the participating Six teams have 24hours rest in between their matches.
With the format of the competition, as explained by the NWFL Chief Operating Officer, the second placed teams in Group A will play against the second placed team in Group B for the 3rd and fourth places on June 11th.
While, the winner of Group A will battle against the winner of the Group B in the grand finale to determine who comes first and second. This match will be played on June 11th at 4pm at the Stephen Keshi Stadium.
According to the Chief Operating Officer of the Nigeria Women Football League, Modupe Shabi, the name of the eventual champions of the 2022/2023 NWFL Premiership season must be sent to the secretariat of the Confederation of African Football in Egypt latest on June 12, which is the deadline for registration of clubs for CAF Women’s Champions League.
The NWFL Secretary added that, the 2022/2023 winner of the season will take home a cash prize of N10million courtesy of the Delta State Government.
The overall second placed team will take home a cash prize of N5million, while the 3rd placed team takes home a cash prize of N3million all sponsored by the Delta State Government.
The Nigeria Football Federation on Monday donated kits to the Six clubs that qualified for the Super Six, they are: Delta Queens of Asaba, Bayelsa Queens of Yenagoa and Rivers Angels of PortHarcourt. Others are Edo Queens of Benin City, FC Robo Queens of Lagos and Confluence Queens of Lokoja.
Bayelsa Queens, the NWFL Premiership champions 2022, represented Nigeria at last year’s CAF Women’s Champions League.
