NYG: “I want to be Nigeria, Africa No 1” – Ojo Funmilayo

After defeating Aisha Rabiu of Team Lagos to win Gold in the Table-Tennis Women’s singles finals, Ojo Funmilayo has revealed her desire to become Nigeria and Africa’s number one tennis player, Owosports.com.ng reports.

Ojo Oluwafunmilayo a Jss 3 student of Omolurogbo Grammar School, Akure representing Team Ondo outclassed Aisha Rabiu 11- 6, 11-9, 6-11, 11-4 (3-1) clinch Gold in the Table Tennis Women Singles of the National Youth Games in Delta Asaba.

Ojo Funmilayo Favour reacting after her victory said, “I am so happy and excited”.

“This is my second time participating in the National Youth Games. And i feel happy winning the gold medal in the girl’s Table Tennis Single. In respect to my opponent, I defeated her in a competition held in Lagos State a few weeks ago, and that really gave me more confidence in the game” she said.

The 13-year-old went further to reveal her dreams and desire of becoming Nigeria and Africa’s number no 1 tennis player in the future.

“I want to be the number one tennis player for Nigeria and Africa”, She said.

She also appealed to the Federal Government to encourage the youth by creating an enabling environment for them to harness and take their career to the next level.

“The government should encourage the youth, take us out for a training course so we can improve on our skills and also get us some equipment”, She concluded.
