Oscar FC emerges champions of maiden Kwara Made US 5-aside tournament

It was an historical moment for Oscar FC on Saturday as they emerged the winner of the maiden edition of the Kwara Made US 5-aside tournament.

A brace from Yakubu Hammed ensured that Oscar Boys defeated YK Superstars 2-1 in the tough-soaked encounter to lift the coveted trophy.

Speaking at the final, Shogo Shodunnke, the CEO of Phreestlye Sports who is also the brain behind the project appreciated all the partners of the tournament and commended all the teams for their conduct.

While noting that the idea of the project is geared towards youth empowerment and sport development, he stated that the first edition will serve as a benchmark for the subsequent ones.

“We hope that the subsequent editions will be greater and better than this. I really appreciate all our partners for supporting us and participating teams for their good conduct.

Shodunnke, a founder of AMAPRO Africa Development Program added that one of the main ideas of the tournament is to diversify from the popular 11-aside and help players develop their skills in an aside game for the purpose of exploring opportunities in it.

Noting the enormous of human resources that abound in Kwara State, he stressed that the tournament was inspired by the leverage that the state has offered both indigenes and non-indigenes.

By extension, he stressed that one of the other focus areas of the tourney is to also help players build the value of self-reliance and self sustainability. Something that was demonstrated through one of the rules of the tourney where one player had to exit the pitch in exchange for the goal conceded.

The winner of the tournament and the runner-up were also rewarded with cash prizes by the organizers at the colourful final which also witnessed an exhibition game from members of the Excel All Stars, a body to which Shodunnke also belonged.

The Kwara Made US 5-aside project is one of the many initiatives of Phreestlye Sports. Amongst other initiatives from the organisation is the AMAPRO Football Championship, Independence Cup and a host of others.
