Victor Osimhen has written his name in the history books as he became the first ever African to win the Capocannoniere, owosports.com.ng reports.
The Nigeria international converted a penalty in this evening’s 2-0 win over Sampdoria, which confirmed him as the serie A top scorer with 26 Serie A goals for the season.
Having already been named Serie A Striker of the Season, he was handed another piece of silverware, awaiting the Serie A trophy.
“I’m happy for this award. It’s amazing feeling for me, I won the Scudetto, which is the most important thing in my career so far. I am grateful to God for this season, for my teammates, my family, for the Neapolitans and they deserve all of this,” Osimhen told DAZN as he was handed the Capocannoniere trophy.
Former Sweden international, Zlatan Ibrahimovic was the last player to combine both the Scudetto and the top scorer award for Inter Milan in 2008/09.
The striker is the fourth Napoli player to win the Capocannoniere with late Argentine legend Diego Maradona in 1987-88 (when Milan won the title), Edinson Cavani in 2012-13 and Gonzalo Higuain in 2015-16, both with Juventus taking the Scudetto.
Osimhen has already beaten George Weah’s record of 47 goals in the Italian top flight.
