Paul Onuachu Wins Belgian Golden Boots Award

Nigeria forward Paul Onuachu has been named the winner of Belgian golden boots award following his record-breaking goal-scoring season with KRC Genk in the Belgian top-flight League, Owosports.com.ng reports.

The 27-year-old who scored 29 goals in the Belgian league last seasons had the golden shoe award presented to him on Wednesday 12th January 2022 becoming the first Nigerian to win the award.

His Club KRC Genk made announcement in a statement which reads “After Branko Strupar and Wesley Sonck, Paul Onuachu is the third KRC Genk player to win the Golden Shoe. Our Nigerian striker finished ahead of Club players Noa Lang and Charles De Ketelaere.

“2021 was an incredible year for Paul: he became top scorer, won the Belgian Cup, became vice-champion, and was crowned professional footballer of the year. Now the Golden Shoe is added. A legend, our legend. That needs no further explanation.”

The striker is not part of the Super Eagles 2021 AFCON campaign in Cameroon after being sideline with Injury.
