In a pulsating encounter, Rivers United and Kwara United battled to a 0-0 draw in Ilorin on Thursday evening, as part of the rescheduled Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) matchday 23 fixtures. The match was marked by numerous scoring opportunities for Kwara United who struck the woodwork four times.

Rivers United’s Samson Paul had the first clear-cut chance in the 5th minute, but he failed to convert. This was followed by another missed opportunity in the 26th minute, when a through pass found Paul, but he was unable to capitalize.

The 37th minute saw a beautiful combination between Paul and Emmanuel Ogbole, but Ogbole’s shot narrowly missed the target. Just before halftime, Musa Abdulafeez was brought down near the opponent’s box, earning a free kick. However, the opportunity was not utilized, and the teams went into the break level at 0-0.

In the second half, Emmanuel Ogbole unleashed a powerful shot in the 53rd minute, but goalkeeper Osagie made a crucial save. Osagie later required medical attention, highlighting the intensity of the match.

In the 69th minute, a beautiful piece of football distribution ended with a shot that hit the woodwork, denying Kwara United yet again. Despite the numerous chances, neither team could find the winning goal, and the match ended 0-0.

The result moves Rivers United up to 11th position on the NPFL log, while Kwara United sit in 13th position.
