Senior Special Assistant to the President on Grassroots Sports Development, Hon. Adeyinka Adeboye, has called on Nigerians across the world to remain calm, united, and fully supportive as the Super Eagles prepare for today’s high-stakes continental playoff showdown against Gabon in Morocco.
Speaking from Morocco, where he is already with the team ahead of kick-off, Adeboye described today as “a defining day for Nigerian football and a moment that requires total national unity.”
“Today is a very important day for Nigeria. I want every Nigerian to stay calm, stay united, and avoid any negativity. Let us channel our energy into prayers and powerful support for the Super Eagles,” Adeboye said.
The playoff semifinal holds massive implications for Nigeria’s hopes of advancing to Sunday’s final and securing a pathway toward the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Gabon, coached by Thierry Mouyouma, are expected to field a dangerous lineup featuring Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Denis Bouanga, Mario Lemina, Didier Ndong, and midfield maestro Guélor Kanga. Their strategy — a quick, short-passing system — is designed to force Nigeria into chasing the game.
But Adeboye expressed full confidence in Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle, who has kept his tactical approach tightly guarded. Nigeria holds the historical advantage, winning five of nine past meetings against Gabon.
He reminded Nigerians that the match cannot end in a draw, making unity and calmness essential.
“Our boys feel the energy of the nation. They need encouragement, not panic. They need unity, not division,” he said.
